Overland Park Utilities

Question: How much are average utilities costs per month for a one bedroom apartment in Overland Park, KS?

I’m looking at possibly moving into a one bed/one bath apartment by myself for a while until a friend of mine is ready to move out. Most of the apartments around only pay 1 or 2 of the utilities if any at all. There are a couple that pay all utilities but I lived in one of them for a year and wasn’t happy there. So I’m hoping to avoid that. I’m trying to figure out what I can afford on my own but it’s hard not knowing what to expect as far as utility costs go. Any help I could get would be great.

Answer: 1 bedroom could be huge square footage or small. It also depends on what type of heat and cooking and how insulated your place is.

Here are some samples, maybe they will help you get a better idea:

Water: (I've never paid but my husband did) 20-50 a month depending on how much you run it (long showers, dishwashers, laundry, etc) Most places will at least cover this.
Electricity (with no heat) 20-60 dollars a month. Don't leave the lights on!
Electricity (with heat) 30-100 a month.
Propane: 50-100 a month (prob less in sumner and more in winter)
Trash Pickup: up to 100 a month, but if you are in a city/town this is normally included.
Phone: 15-50 a month
Laundry (coin op): 20 bucks a month tops, unless you wash your clothes all the time

My last place was 500 something square feet and had electric heat. Water and trash were covered. I paid 30 for summer months and 60 for worst winter month.

Current place is 1000 square feet and heat is propane (included). We pay about 60-70 a month for electricity. Water is a well.
